I think we can all put our hands up and say that at some point in time, we have wished that our hair was longer...

Although there are currently no products that can physically make the hair grow there are products that we can use that will help assist our hair when it grows.

I think we all panic when we wash our hair, and we get a handful of hairs in our hands. Before you panic, firstly, please remember we naturally lose up to 100 hairs per day, if you haven’t brushed your hair since the day before it is completely natural to shed more.

If you are worried always seek advice from a GP or trichologist.

How does hair growth work?

Generally, our hair grows 1.25cm a month. It grows in three key stages, everyone’s growth stages will be completely different, that’s why some people’s hair grows quicker than others.

Anagen: This is the hair growing stage which generally lasts 1-7 years.

Catagen: This is where the hair starts to fall out which can last 2 weeks.

Telogen: This is the hair resting stage which can last 3-4 months.

This will then start all over again from the beginning, all of the hairs on our head will be at different stages of this cycle.

Why won’t my hair grow?

Hair growth can stop/slow down for several reasons, such as:

  • Hair damage
  • Medical conditions such as alopecia
  • Medication
  • Hormones
  • Dieting
  • Genetics

There are numerous shampoos on the market that will assist in helping the hair to grow. Unfortunately, this isn’t possible for some medical conditions (alopecia areata) that cause the cells to be under attack in the hair follicle, resulting in permanent hair loss.

Let’s take a look at 4 of my go-to hair growth shampoos:

This range is targeted at assisting the hair to grow by repairing damage caused by heat styling and/or color damage.

It repairs the hair from the inside out, preventing it from breaking at the ends. This will result in longer, healthier hair.

The range also has a:

  • Conditioner
  • Masque
  • Thermique
  • Serum

This really is a beautiful product and I have seen some really amazing results from clients using this.

Similar to the previous shampoo, this range is designed to strengthen brittle hair that can be caused from everyday stress, by 84%. However, unlike the other shampoo this range is specifically targeted at preventing hair loss.

The range also has a:

  • Conditioner
  • Thermique
  • Serum

I have seen clients experience less hair loss by using this range for just a month!

This shampoo works by nourishing the hair follicles with nutrients promoting hair growth.

Key benefits of this shampoo are:

  • Soothes the scalp.
  • Paraben and sulphate free.
  • Ideal for any hair type.

This is another really great shampoo for hair loss and it has seen some really great results.

This shampoo is designed to help thinning hair, by stimulating the scalp. It works by suppressing the hormone DHT that is responsible for thinning hair in both genders.

To use:

  • Use like any other shampoo.
  • Massage into the scalp for 2-3 minutes.
  • Rinse.

It really helps to thicken the hair due to hormone related problems.

For some hair growth problems, you may be referred to a trichologist who may prescribe you medicated shampoos.

Here are some more hair growth shampoos that are currently on the market.

I want to share with you a really great tool to help assist with hair growth in the shampoo process.

This brush will really help with hair growth! It is designed to stimulate the follicles to produce thicker hair and encourage hair growth.

All of these products contain key ingredients that help promote healthy hair growth.

Menthol, caffeine and peppermint work by boosting circulation at the scalp, whereas protein helps to build up the internal structure of the hair.

One huge tip that I would 100% recommend that you do, is have regular haircuts! This hasn’t got to be a huge haircut, but it is important that we remove any damaged ends. This will help the hair look thicker and feel healthier. If you don't have your haircut you may find but the ends start snapping due to split ends which will prevent hair growth.

Look after your hair, treat it properly, be patient and you will see results!
