How to Get Volume on Your Roots

There are a few ways for you to create volume on your roots depending on how much time you have on your hands.

The first way is with your hairdryer and brush, the second way is to set your hair in large Velcro rollers and the third is to back comb your hair.

Let’s tackle the hairdryer and brush technique first

Step By Step Guide To Getting Volume On Your Roots With A Hairdryer And Brush

  • STEP 1

Shampoo and condition your hair with the Best volumizing shampoo and

Best Conditioner that volumize hair.

Towel dry your hair and prepare your hair with Products that volumize hair . Remember to take sections and make sure you have sprayed all of your root area. Don’t forget to spray 20cm away from the root area.

  • STEP 2

Flip your hair upside down blow drying it in the opposite direction to create more volume.

  • STEP 3

Once your hair is 90% dry flip your head back over and section off starting at the nape of your head.

Take a large round brush, insert it at the root and rest your hairdryer onto the hair while pulling the brush upwards.  Use a nozzle on your hairdryer to give you air flow in one specific area or your hair will blow all over the place.

Go over this section of hair once or twice, it should then be dry.  Wind the bush up into the hair and leave to cool while you take your second section of hair down.

It is easier if you have two brushes as one can cool down in the hair.

If you don’t have two brushes it doesn’t matter.  Once the brush is cool, take it out of your hair carefully and start the next section.

Have a look at the different size brushes for your length of hair. The bigger the brush the more volume.

Once you have finished drying all the sections of your hair, turn your hair upside down and gently shake your blow wave out.

While you have your head upside down it would be a good idea to section and spray your hair again with root volumizing spray.

  • STEP 5

Flip your head back up and gently comb or style your hair into place.

VOLUME WITH VELCRO ROLLERS

Setting hair is considered old fashioned but is ideal for longer hair if you want amazing volume.  These days you don’t have to use old setting rollers and struggle with a pin, we now have Velcro ones that stick to one another in the hair making it easy to use.

The bonus with these rollers is that they come in big sizes, some bigger than a hairbrush so you will have great volume off the roots.

  • STEP 1

You can either wash your hair and prepare it with products and dry it off completely again upside down for maximum effect or you can use these rollers on hair washed the previous day that is dry.

Your effect will be better on clean hair that has been dried off.

  • STEP 2

Section your hair and spray with root volumizer, take one piece of your hair and wrap it around the roller.  Make sure you have a tight tension on the roller and hair or the roller will not sit correctly off the root and you will not achieve volume or sleekness from the curl.

  • STEP 3

Once you have put all your rollers in your hair, spray your hair with a little hairspray and take the hair dryer and run it over your entire head locking in the product and heat into the rollers. Do this for a few minutes.

Allow the rollers to dry completely.

  • STEP 4

Once your hair is dry and the rollers are cool, remove them gently out of your hair.

Give your hair a shake and comb through as you would normally do.

Your hair will feel bouncy all day!

If it is too curly, run a brush through your hair and straighten it out.

VOLUME ON YOUR ROOTS WITH BACK COMBING

This is the quickest way to achieve volume on your hair, however you need to be careful when backcombing your hair as you don’t want to have any breakage when you brush it out later that evening.

  • STEP 1

Make sure your hair is clean and dried and styled.

Section your hair starting at the nape of your neck and taking a teasing comb gently push the comb onto the root area once or twice until it feels like there is a knot at the root.

Continue doing this in sections until you have done your whole head.

Once complete your hair will look extremely wild, it is now that you take a small soft cushion brush and brush your hair into place avoiding to flatten the root area.

  • STEP 3

Once your hair is in style, spray it with some hair spray to keep your hair in place.

Back combing isn’t difficult to comb out of your hair, however if you are concerned rather dip your head under the shower allowing the hairspray to melt off and shampoo your hair following conditioner which will take all the back combing out of your hair.

While this is the most old fashioned way to create volume off your roots it is in my eyes the easiest and quickest way and works exceptionally well.
